THE STUDIO
Candyland Recording Studio is located in Northern Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Designed and built by owner/engineer Mike Montgomery, the studio features a vintage Harrison SM5 32 x 32 analog console and an Otari MTR 90mk2 24 track 2” tape machine. Two Fostex 24 track hard disk recorders are also on hand (these machines feature 24 balanced ins/outs via trs or optically via ligthpipe).
Computer-based recording and mixing is available via an Antelope Orion 32 converter/interface and Apple Logic X running on a 2017 MacBookPro. We also offer Mastering services at Candyland. The computer is loaded with Steinberg Wavelab Pro 9 featuring the full MasterRig Suite of plugins. Mike Montgomery is a certified 'mfit', 'Mastered for itunes' Engineer, so your releases can be officially badged and marketed as such. A combination of analog and DAW-based signal processing is selected project to project to achieve the best results for any platform you desire: Vinyl, CD, Cassette, Digital Download or Streaming.
Recording: Sounds are captured by a healthy collection of microphones from; Audio Technica, Telefunken, AKG, Rode, Shure, Sennheiser, Beyer, Octava, TOA, CAD, MXL, Heil and Audix, and are routed to tape and processed for playback via racks of outboard mic pres, EQs and compressors from manufacturers such as Trident, Toft, Universal Audio, Calrec, Tube Tech, Altec, Manley/Langevin, Vintech, Urei, Empirical Labs, Joe Meek, ADL, Neve (Amek), GML, DBX, Valley People, Symetrix and many more!
The studio offers a selection of electric and acoustic guitars and basses along with drums and other instruments.
Amplifiers from Mesa Boogie, Fender, Traynor, Vox, Marshall, Heath, SWR, Hafler, Ampeg and Leslie are available for use.
A wide array of vintage and modern/boutique effect pedals and stomp boxes are here to help you get weird. We were happy to recently add the ENTIRE line of pedals from Earthquaker Devices.
Three tracking rooms and three isolation booths with great sight lines offer a wide range of tonal possibilities when recording and over-dubbing, while the large, 32’ x 14’ control room provides a comfortable place to work and listen.
Monitoring in the control room is via a pair of Genelec 1020 A’s, a pair of Yamaha HS8s and a pair of Behringer Truths.
The studio features easy load-in, a lounge, a kitchenette/break-room, four restrooms, on-site overnight accommodations (as well as many great hotel options nearby). Free off-street parking (with security camera monitoring).
