Candyland Studios
Candyland is a full-production facility located just 5 minutes North of Downtown Cincinnati. Originally designed to foster and support the creative urges of all of the groups hovering around the Tiberius Records hub, owners Jim Turner and Mike Montgomery recently opened their doors to outside artists as well. Candyland is run by musicians for musicians.
Centered around a Fostex 24 track hard disk recorder and a Mackie Digital 8 Bus console, the studio is well equipped to provide the clarity and dynamic range that today’s recordings demand. With 24 bit resolution, the Fostex is a great machine for capturing all of the super highs and ultra lows, while the 8 Buss’ full-automation capabilities make it a great desk for creating remarkably detailed mixes. With on-board total recall at the touch of a button, mixes can be tweaked over time during different sessions without all the wasted time of having to painstakingly re-build sounds from scratch every time you need to make a slight change to a song.
The studio also features Furman headphone monitoring, giving each member of the band total control over their headphone mix from their own monitoring station. No more fighting over who needs to turn their guitar up or down during tracking!
Sounds are captured by an impressive selection of microphones from Audio Technica, AKG, Rode, Shure, Sennheiser, Octava, CAD, MXL and Audix, and are routed to tape via racks of outboard mic pres, Eqs and compressors from respected manufacturers like Trident, Toft, Universal Audio, Manley/Langevin, Vintech, Urei, Empirical Labs, Joe Meek, ADL, Neve (Amek), GML, DBX, Lexicon and many more! The studio also offers an arsenal of guitars, basses and other instruments as well as amplifiers from Mesa Boogie, Fender, Marshall, SWR, Hafler, Ampeg and Leslie.
A variety of spacious tracking rooms and isolation booths offer a wide range of tonal possibilities when recording and over-dubbing, while the large, 20’ x 19’ control room provides a comfortable place to work and listen. Your ears are caressed by a pair of Genelec 1020 A’s and a pair of Behringer ‘Truth’ monitors.
Candyland’s mastering and editing suite is built around a Macintosh G4 with Pro Tools and an enormous selection of available plug-ins.
